The route is 13.670 m long and connects Viarigi with Cuccaro, passing through Fubine. It can be divided into two parts. First, the route from Viarigi to Fubine. Second, the route from Fubine to Cuccaro. The difference in level is 40 m. Estimated travel time: 3 hours and 15 minutes.
The point of departure is located in Viarigi. Head west and go past Torre dei Segnali, which is the symbol of the village; it is brick-built 25 m high, distributed over five levels, with mono-hole windows, three rows of hanging arches, and a swallow-tail battlement. Plus, it has a terrace outside; barrel and ribbed vault inside. Leave the inhabited area and take Strada Provinciale 29 that passes through the woods and farmlands for about 1 km and a half. You get to a large open area, with fields both on the right and left side. At the centre of it, there is a dirt road that is 350 m long. When you come to an intersection, turn left and go down the road for about 1 km until it intersects with Strada Bordona.
Take Strada Bordona and go past the Health Relais “La Bordona”. From Strada Bordona the route proceeds in Via San Giovanni Bosco along farmlands and wooded areas for slightly more than 1 km, until reaching the historic centre of Fubine. Take Via Pavaranza, where the church of the Holy Trinity can be seen on the left. This church is now included in a restructuring programme that foresees further improvement of cultural goods belonging to Component 6 of UNESCO World Heritage Site “Langhe-Roero Monferrato” called “Monferrato of Infernot”. Fubine is in the buffer zone of the site. Once in the inhabited area, take Via Longo and go down for about 800 m.
The second part of the route leads towards Cuccaro. Take Strada Provinciale 50 and go straight ahead until it intersects with a slope that leads to Cuccaro, a village that offers splendid views of Monferrato. Go down Via Giovanni XXIII for about 800 m. Leave the main road and turn left into a path that passes through farmlands and vineyards for about 700 m, until it intersects with Strada Provinciale 74. The route continues for about 1.200 m on a slope. Then, turn left into Strada Cavallari and go straight ahead along the farmlands for about 650 m. Turn right into Strada Pilenti until you reach the cemetery of Cuccaro, where the route intersects with Strada Provinciale 74 again. Keep going down that road for 500 m and get into the inhabited area of Cuccaro. According to the legend, in this village lived some members of the family of Cristoforo Colombo. For this reason, there is a museum dedicated to his family. Cuccaro is also the village where the famous football player and coach Nils Liedholm settled down. The prestigious award offered each year in the village is dedicated to his memory.
On the way between Fubine and Cuccaro there is “Enosis Meraviglia”, a working method and center of excellence for winemaking and wine research.
