Description
To mark the 30th International Bat Night, a hands-on scientific activity with chiropterologist Fabrizio Gili. Participants will be able to discover fascinating facts about the world of bats, learn about the species found in the Royal Parks and gain an insight into the main monitoring and conservation techniques. During the evening, the bioacoustic approach will be presented and participants will have the opportunity to observe temporary capture for scientific purposes, including morphological identification of the species and the subsequent release of the animals. 6.00 pm: meet at the wetland area near the former Fagianaia di Vicimanino 6.00 pm–7.30 pm: introduction to the world of bats, interesting facts about the species found in the Royal Parks and a presentation of the main methods of study and monitoring7.30 pm–8.15 pm: packed dinnerApprox. 8.15 pm: setting up the nets for the temporary capture of bats8.15 pm–11.00 pm: checking the nets, observing the captured animals, identifying the species and releasing them; demonstration of bioacoustic monitoring techniques and listening to the ultrasonic calls of bats11.00 pm: end of activities Please bring a torch, preferably a head torch, and wear footwear and clothing suitable for evening activities in the countryside. The capture activities will take place subject to suitable weather conditions (in the event of rain, the event will be postponed or cancelled).
