On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March 2023, the spotlights will be on Torino. The Tazzoli Ice Ronk will host the Italian Absolute Short Track Championships, which will award the titles for the Senior male and female categories: the strongest athletes on the national scene will compete on the three canonical distances - 500, 1000 and 1500m - and in the mixed relay on 2000m.
The Azzurri, returning from the sumptuous World Championships that have just been staged in Seoul, South Korea, are fully booked. Starting with the newly crowned world champion Pietro Sighel, looking for a tasty revenge against Luca Spechenhauser after the comeback suffered in the 2022 edition in Bormio. And without forgetting Olympic and world medallist Andrea Cassinelli, who will be able to count on the passionate support of the Torino public. The women’s parterre will be no less impressive with Arianna Valcepina, who will have Arianna Sighel as her first rival and will try to succeed her sister Martina in the roll of honour, having just returned to competition a few weeks ago after stopping in the first part of the season.
Andrea Gios (FISG president) says: “It is a magical moment for Italian short track and these Championships are a perfect way to celebrate an extraordinary season, studded with incredible results and concluded by the splendid four medals last weekend on the ice in Seoul”.
